As autumn approaches it feels like the right time to reflect on a wonderful summer of cycling. Our Two’s Company project - that offers fun-filled days out tandem riding to blind and visually impaired people - really made the most of the longer, sunny days. Here are some of the things they got up to:
Weekend Away in Devon
Every year, Two’s Company riders take the tandems on a weekend away to the countryside. This year the crew escaped to Devon to explore cycle routes along the Exe Trail and the beautiful seaside towns of Exmouth and Budleigh Salterton. The back riders had a fantastic holiday and made many happy memories:
“Thank you for discovering the fantastic place and area where we stayed, and of course the help all the front riders gave us. It was a lovely route finishing along the sea front, and we were fortunate to be blessed with a beautiful day” - Jenny, back rider
Into the Woods Bushcraft for Young Riders
Buschcraft expert Rachel Tomlinson led our young riders group into Warmley Woods for crafts and games using the things we found all around us. Leaf printing and making kazoos from hazel and grasses were followed by a picnic, then woodland games of Smite and Quoits.
“My daughter thoroughly enjoyed the ride and activities. The chatter was good and so helpful in building confidence. She is looking forward to the next ride” – Aziza’s mum
South Bristol Community Hospital funday
Our Twos’ Company and Bike Minded teams joined partners from The Ape Project, LinkAge, Action Indoor Sports and Better By Bike to provide opportunities for people to try tandem riding, get their bike fixed for free, and find out about our supportive bike rides that help people with mental and physical health issues to boost their wellbeing.
More than 350 people of all ages joined the fun. See the fab photos taken by Chris Bahn here.
