Meet the Team - Robin Lapworth

Robin Lapworth co-ordinates Life Cycle's "Two's Company" project, which offers joyful, liberating days out tandem cycling for the blind or visually impaired. He also works as a cycle instructor.

How are you connected to Life Cycle?

I was a volunteer front rider for Two's Company for three years before getting the job of organising it!

What's your earliest cycling memory?

We weren't allowed to cycle to school, but I remember doing Cycling Proficiency in the playground with the local bobby on the beat. I still have that triangular badge.

What was your first bike?

Dunno, but it was red and white, had no gears, crappy brakes, but I loved it!

What would your dream bike be?

I'm not remotely 'techy' so I am going to say something that can cope with anything I throw at it.

What are your favourite cycling routes in Bristol/UK?

Glen Ogle in Scotland is amazing. I also love the Fallowfield Loop in Manchester for the urban experience, but the Bristol to Bath path is still my favourite even after all these years.

How long does it take you to fix a puncture?

It depends on how bad it is and how obvious the cause. If possible I prefer the 'keyhole' approach without taking the whole wheel off. Ideally about three minutes.

If you could wave a magic wand, and make something better about cycling, what would it be?

I've worked in cycling long enough to know there is no magic wand, but serious government funding, carefully used, could help make cycling the serious transport option it should be.

Who would your ideal tandem partner be?

Any of my fantastic Two's Company back riders. Or if I was on the back, James Bond.

What's your favourite pre/post cycling food?

Same as my normal favourite. A honey sandwich and a cup of tea.

What's your best cycling related joke?

'My dog will chase anyone on a bicycle'

'What will you do? Chain him up?'

'No, I'll just confiscate his bicycle'
