Cycling Courses in School Holidays

We run Bikeability courses every school holiday (except Christmas) at Felix Road, Lockleaze and Southmead Adventure Playgrounds. We can teach individuals to ride and train small groups of riders to the Bikeability core levels 1, 2 and 3. Please read the options below to decide which course is suitable for your child:

Learn to Ride

Start your cycling journey with support to help you master two wheels.  For children of any age who want to get cycling. The course is delivered in two 1-hours sessions.

Level 1

Gain skills riding your bike in a car-free environment and learn the basic fundamentals for fun, safe cycle journeys.  For children in year groups 3, 4 and 5 who are able to ride without stabilisers. The course is 2 hours long, delivered in one session.

Level 2

Improve your skills & confidence on quiet roads, where you'll learn to ride safely and responsibly; share the road with others and manage risk when cycling.  For children in year groups 5, 6 and 7 who are confident riders, able to cycle one-handed and look over their shoulder. The course is delivered in three 2-hour sessions.

Level 3

Hone your skills, learn how to plan journeys, ride assertively and negotiate diverse road environments.  For children in year groups 7 and above, who have completed the Level 2 course or are experienced riders. The course is 3 hours long, delivered in one session.

Led Rides

Practice your new skills, explore your local area and cycling routes with a supported local ride. For children in year 6 and above.

Thanks to funding from the Bikeability Trust Widening Participation Fund, all courses are FREE OF CHARGE for children in the local area.

What to bring

Your child will need to bring a roadworthy bike to use. UK law does not require you to wear a helmet. If you do, please make sure your child's helmet fits correctly. Please note that due to COVID-19 instructors are not allowed to adjust helmets. We will be riding even if it's raining, so please make sure they bring weather appropriate clothing, a drink and a snack.

Safety during COVID-19

Your child must be well and not suffering from any COVID-19 symptoms.  By booking training, parents are confirming that their child can understand and abide by social distancing rules and will follow the instructions of the course leaders; we reserve the right to terminate a session/course early if the course leaders feel it is in any way unsafe to continue.
