City & Guilds - Level 1 courses
Life Cycle UK offers 2 day, fully accredited courses that teach bike mechanics to City & Guilds "Level 1 Cycle Mechanic" standard.
Who is it for?
Home mechanics, cycle instructors, teachers, scout leaders - anyone who wants an accredited introduction to cycle mechanics.
Each course has wide range of people from diverse backgrounds. It is a professional standard course with lots of hands-on work. You will be expected to have a basic knowledge of bikes and bike tools and the ability to use them. If needed, we can arrange support with basic reading and writing skills.
What does it cover?
The Level 1 course covers four mandatory units:
- 181 Level 1 - Repair a cycle puncture
- 182 Level 1 - Remove and replace a cycle rim brake assembly
- 183 Level 1 - Remove and replace a cycle gear assembly
- 184 Level 1 - Carry out a systematic cycle check
Each unit will be assessed as we cover it. On completion of all assessments, you will achieve a City & Guilds Level 1 Certificate in Cycle Mechanics (3902-18).
"The tutor was very good and patient. I feel as though I achieved a great deal and know more about bikes than I ever did." - Sustrans employee

The course will be taught in our fully equipped workshop in Bristol. We will supply overalls, gloves, workstands, bikes to work on, comprehensive teaching notes and all tools. All you need to bring is a pen and notebook. As this is a professional qualification, you will be expected to wear the appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) throughout the course.
