Spring is bringing out the cyclist in Derby and we are getting busy down at the workshop. We have some handy new volunteers who have been helping us with the bikes and getting the finishing touches put on the shiny new look workshop. The peas are coming up in the widow boxes and we are all gearing up to make the most of the fine weather.
As Eroica approaches we have seen some of the beautiful pre-1987 bikes in our workshop find new homes and get smartened up for the big weekend. We still have plenty more Eroica classifying bikes and a few weeks to go before the big ride on June 17th. Come down and have a look!
The Dr Bike sessions are becoming a fixture at Artcore with more people coming every time. We are working with Sustrans to get more locations up and running so more of the good people of Derby can get their bikes fixed up for free. Alongside this we have been providing free bikes to people on low incomes through the Access project. We had a great day at the workshop where 7 riders gained new bikes to help them access work, study and hopefully have some fun! We have a date for the first funded maintenance class and are looking forward to getting the new workshop space doing what it was designed for: teaching eager learners to fix their own bikes.
We have fitted bikes for a group of riders for the Sophie Cycle 2018. 25 rides will be cycling 94 miles from Melbourne to Cambridge to raise money for Anthony Nolan Charity in memory of their friend Sophie, who recently died from a rare blood disorder at the age of 26. The bikes have been picked up so the riders can get a feel of them before they set off on June 2nd. We wish them all well and look forward to hearing how they get on.
