Life Cycle was delighted to attend this year’s Travel Awards, hosted by Travelwest. Chief Executive Poppy was accompanied by Life Cycle fundraiser Becky and our lovely instructor/mechanic/ride leader Jacks.
We enjoyed a three course meal in the company of some of the leaders in sustainable business travel – including Rolls Royce, Eat Festivals, GKN Aerospace and Worle School Academy. It was inspiring to hear about the strides being made by organisations across the West of England, enabling people to choose more active, healthy and sustainable ways of travelling.
Life Cycle was delighted to win the ‘Most Innovative Sustainable Travel Measure’ award for our ‘Over 50s Cycle Buddies’ project.
Over 50s Cycle Buddies
Our community-based scheme pairs experienced cyclists aged 50+ with less confident beginners or returners to cycling – also aged 50 or over. The volunteer buddy helps their mentee to gradually build their skills and confidence, and shows them quiet, pleasant routes to places they need to get to.
Not only does the scheme effectively enable over 50s to lead more active lifestyles, it is also a wonderful way to help isolated older people to connect with local services and activities – making friends along the way.
