Volunteering with Life Cycle UK is a great way to develop your skills, meet new people and work with an enthusiastic team. We have over 50 regular volunteers who make a huge contribution to our work. If you would like to join our volunteer team, send us an email or give us a bell on 0117 353 4580.
Two's Company is our programme of tandem rides around Bristol for people who are blind or visually impaired. We re looking for experienced cyclists to join our team of volunteers. In 2016 we will be running up to 30 supervised rides, between March and November, mostly a weekends. We are looking for a commitment of 4 rides over the year from each front rider.
The rides are pitched at different levels - gentle, intermediate and more advanced - to enable people of all abilities and fitness levels to participate.
Being a front rider is a very specific role, so it is important that you are comfortable cycling distances of 30 miles, and you are able to negotiate busy roads (most of our rides are on quiet routes but you may occassionally need to cycle through traffic). You ideally need to be at least 5'6" tall (167.5), as most tandems have quite large frames.
You must be friendly and outgoing, and a good communicator, who can partner a visually impaired person on an equal non-patronising basis. The rides are very sociable, usually involving a stop for lunch at a pub or cafe, so you need to enjoy meeting and engaging with new people.
Love cycling, got a camera or mobile? We're looking for someone who would love nothing more than to spend the summer cycling around Bristol taking photo's of cycle stands installed under Life Cycle's Take a Stand scheme. If this appeals to you please contact Frances
