Mechanics voluntary
- Excerpt
- Volunteer mechanics for our BikeBack recycling project.
- Description
-
Our BikeBack project takes old abandoned bikes, donated to Life Cycle by individuals and organisations, and then repairs them and gives them – free of charge – to people facing multiple disadvantages. Most of the beneficiaries are unemployed or on very low incomes.
Some donated bikes are in fairly good condition and simply need oil and a puncture fixing. However, the majority of bikes we receive need a thorough overhaul and several new parts. Where possible we use old parts, stripped off other bikes, during rebuild. Anything that can’t be reused is sorted for scrap.
We are looking for volunteers who have good basic knowledge and skills of bike mechanics and are able to fix punctures, brakes and gears with minimal supervison. A Cytech qualified mechanic will be able to provide training and support with more complex tasks.
