Female Volunteer front-riders for tandem rides needed! voluntary

In 2012 we will be running rides for adults and children between March and October, mostly at weekends but with some weekday evening rides during the summer months.

The rides are pitched at different levels – gentle, intermediate and advanced - to enable people of all abilities and fitness levels to participate.

As being a front rider is a very specific role, it's important that you meet the criteria below:

Being a front rider can be hard work. You need to be someone who regularly cycles distances of at least 30 miles. You must also be able to cycle confidently on busy roads (most of our rides are on quiet roads, but you may need to cycle through traffic to get to and from the start point).

You must be friendly, outgoing and a good communicator who can partner a visually impaired person on an equal non-patronising basis. The rides are very sociable (eg. we usually stop at a pub for lunch) so you need to enjoy meeting new people and chatting. 

You need to be at least 5’6”, as most tandems have quite large frames.

Most of our rides run on Saturdays or Sundays, but we do run some rides on weekdays and evenings. We're looking for a minimum commitment of 4 rides over the year from each front rider.

As we're working with children and vulnerable adults, we CRB check all our volunteers. You need to be willing to fill in an online form and to arrange a time during the week to bring in some ID to our office to be checked.

ALL VOLUNTEERS MUST BE AVAILABLE TO ATTEND OUR VISUAL AWARENESS TRAINING DAY IN BRISTOL ON SATURDAY 3rd MARCH 2012 which includes training in riding a tandem.
