Old bikes wanted...

If you have an old bike sitting in your shed, or are upgrading and need a good home for your old bike, please donate it to our new bike refurbishment scheme, BikeBack.

All you have to do is drop it off at the CREATE Centre anytime between 9am and 5pm Monday to Friday, or 10am-3pm on Saturdays. Your old bike will be taken to Bristol Prison (Horfield) and refurbished by prisoners.  Once fixed it will be resold to help more people on low-incomes to cycle.

Fix your own Brompton

Our next Brompton maintenance workshop is Saturday 17th July at our workshop in Knowle. The course costs £60 per person (includes all spare parts). See our website for details or to book.

One satisifed customer, Tony, said:
"I was very impressed with the whole day, George kept the whole thing flowing with his easy informal style and I found that by the end of the course we had covered rather a lot. I am now confident with  taking off the back wheel and refitting it."

We also do vouchers - the perfect gift for a Brompton owner. Call us on 0117 353 4580 for details.

Places cost just £10 a place for a 3 day course (2 hours a day) for children who attend Bristol or BANES schools. We cover signalling, turning, passing parked cars safely and road awareness. Fancy a new career as a cycle instructor?

We run regular four-day instructor training courses in Bristol. Each course covers the theory and the practice of teaching children and adults to ride safely on-road. A bursary of £300 per person is available. Our next course runs on 19, 20, 26 and 27 July. More info

Non-collision cycling injuries

Do you want to hire a bike workshop?

We have some spare capacity at our fully kitted out bike workshop at the Life Cycle Centre, Daventry Road, Knowle and are wondering what to do with it. One option is to find someone who needs to use a workshop for part of the time. Get in touch if you're interested: 0117 353 4580.

Bristol Bike Challenge

Another essential date for your diary this summer: Bristol Bike Challenge is taking place on Sunday 25th July. Choose from one of four challenges: a short fun family ride; a 26 mile Challenge for those who want to decorate their bikes, ride in fancy dress, enter their first race or simply want a fun ride away from roads; or a 45 or 80 mile Challenge for those who are after something even harder, including cycle paths, hills and quiet roads.

For more information and to register see www.ukchallengeevents.com or call 0117 370 9644.

Irritated by all the World Cup hype? Unimpressed by all those cars with the flags on display?*

Well, here at Life Cycle, we can help. For a limited time period (ending on the date of the World Cup Final (1)), we are offering a ‘Not-a-flag’.

Instead of being attached to a car, a ‘Not-a-flag’, retailing at just £9.99 is attached to a bicycle, as per the attached picture.

The handy design of each ‘Not-a-flag’ means that no ‘Not-a-flag’ holder needs to be attached to the bicycle, to allow the ‘Not-a-flag’ to be fixed. ‘Not-a-flag’ has a further advantage in that it creates no drag, and will fit to any part of a bicycle.

To add to the benefits of ‘Not-a-flag’, there is no postage for each ‘Not-a-flag’ sent out (2), and all profits go to Life Cycle’s
Two’s Company project, which runs tandem rides for adults and children with a visual impairment.

Charlie Bolton, ‘Not-a-flag’ co-ordinator said

‘We are extremely proud of ‘Not-a-flag’. We think it is the anti-dote to the hysteria over the World Cup. And, if you agree with us, well why not by a ‘Not-a-flag' – and show your lack of commitment to football.’

Anyone wishing to purchase a ‘Not-a-flag’ can do so on line via our
website

Serious bit

OK. This is an opportunistic attempt to cash in on the World Cup by getting your money of you and giving you nothing in return. However, we happen to think that Two’s Company is a brilliant project.

We are a small charity whose aim is to promote cycling in any way we can. So to quote Bob Geldof ‘give us your money, now!’

Notes:

1. Whenever that is

2. Well, actually, nothing at all is sent out

*Editor's note: Most of us here at Life Cycle are really excited by the World Cup except Charlie who has Serbia in his sweepstake...
