Bike Guru
We invite you to hear what happened when Life Cycle's team of Bike Guru's hit the road in Bristol to give away free bicycle lights, bike safety checks and high-visibility tabards to ordinary cyclists.
Simply contact Kai at Life Cycle UK (see contact details overleaf) to book one of the dozen places in our telephone seminar.
Date: 18th June 2008
Time: 11:00 a.m.
Cost: £10 (includes: phone participation; real-time on-line graphics; PowerPoint presentation).
Duration: 60 – 90 minutes.
Number of people: Up to twelve
How to register: Speak to Kai – see contact details beow.
Funded by the Department for Transport, the Bike Guru project’s mission was to reduce injury and death to cyclists on roads by improving their visibility and awareness of safe riding techniques.
The Bike Guru project method is unique, in that gurus engage with cyclists and enter into a brief discussion, cyclists-to-cyclist, on safety, their attitudes towards cycling, and behaviour. A short survey immediately qualifies them to receive free, fitted bike lights and a free high-visibility tabard. They then also receive a prescription after a free bike safety check. Six to eight weeks later they are asked to respond to a second questionnaire to find out whether their cycling is different.
These are some quotes from participants:
“I was very glad to be stopped by Bike Guru and I found the service they provided to be excellent. I am more confident now when riding at night”
“Made me a better representative of cyclists. I don't jump the lights any more.”
“I feel much safer on my bike now and have more confidence when riding in the dark, which is most days. Many thanks”
“We felt the scheme was very good and have all used our lights and clothing and been converted of the need for hi-vis jackets which we now wear all the time and not just in the dark.”
The Bike Guru concept is an effective way to get important road safety messages across to cyclists. It can be replicated simply and easily to cyclists in a range of settings at a low cost.
If you want to know more about the Bike Guru project, the lessons learned, and how to deliver similar benefits to cyclists in your area, book a place on our telephone conference by contacting:
